Gregory was born in Jersey City, NJ in 1963. His parents, Walter
and Kathryn Kavanagh, moved their family to the small township of Brick in
1965. As a child Gregory grew up like so many others going to the
public school system in Brick Township and playing sports, such as soccer
and football. Gregory graduated from high school in
1982, and in that same year he entered the U.S. Navy to become a Seabee as
an Electrician. He remained in service until 1990 when he received an
Honorable Discharge.
During his childhood years Gregory saved three people from drowning on
three seperate occasions. The first was a small child in a lake near his
home, the second an adult saved from in a river during an outing, and the third
a small child saved from drowning in a swimming pool.
Gregory married Diane L. VanDusen and they have 4 children. He still lives in the township in which he grew up and works as an
electrician for the local IBEW Union #400. Aside from his day job of mild
mannered electrician Gregory also leads a second life as an Inventor and
he holds U.S. and Canadian patents.
Gregory spends his evenings serving his community both as a volunteer
firefighter and as a councilman. First elected in 1998 he regained
his council seat for a second term of four years in 2001. Gregory is one
of the Kavanagh's we can all be proud of because he is the type of man who
always steps forward to help others.
